Crown Point State Historic Site, Lake Champlain, New York.
Storm light breaks over the ruins of His Majesty's Fort of Crown Point, built by the British beginning in 1759 after they seized the site from the French. An accidental explosion destroyed the powder magazine in 1773, and the fort was never rebuilt, leaving these barracks and ramparts standing as ruins, castle-like against the sky, for more than 250 years.
